Mixed Methods (Quant focus) Product Research - A Short Turnaround to Inform High-Stakes Product Decisions
Context
Amid a high-stakes product tooling decision, it became clear that while cross-functional stakeholders were consulted, provider (end-user) feedback was missing. I led a rapid-turnaround survey initiative to ensure provider perspectives directly informed the decision-making process.
Research Goals & Methodology
The objective was clear: gather representative insights from our provider network to guide product strategy. I moved quickly and:
Aligned with Product and executive stakeholders to refine objectives
Secured full recruitment support (a first!)
Designed, negotiated, and programmed a focused Qualtrics survey
I advocated for including the full provider network to maximize insight breadth, balancing question clarity with brevity to optimize for response rate. Participant summary below.
Analysis
Within one week in the field, we achieved a 20% response rate—highly representative of our provider base. I conducted statistical analyses using Qualtrics and Excel to uncover patterns, quantify sentiment, and tell a grounded, compelling story. Visuals supported key insights, elevating clarity and credibility. Example visuals below.
Recommendations & Impact
Findings were shared iteratively, with tailored outputs for different audiences. The C-suite had key insights in hand within a week—enabling timely, research-driven decisions. My data was instrumental in shaping the final product direction, including competitor benchmarking directly cited in executive discussions.
All final decisions, including those escalated to the CEO and CFO, were 100% informed by this research—a strong validation of the work and the approach. Example of user-reported competitor insights below.
Reflections
This project was a great example of swift, high-impact collaboration. It reinforced the power of a well-designed survey and highlighted the importance of translating user voice into strategic action. I also had the opportunity to expand my data visualization toolkit, making findings more digestible and actionable for executive audiences. Despite the intensity of the timeline, the outcome—and seeing user insight drive a critical decision—was deeply rewarding.
